Amazon Review
This is an interesting book based on the experiences of a husband and wife missionary team. I found it to be a well written account of the work of two young people trying to make good this vast world.
Emily and Brent Raan travel the world doing missionary work in India and Uganda. They make friends with the local people and describe their ups and downs as they attempt to spread the word of the gospel. I found it interesting when they talked about experiencing what they call ‘reverse culture shock.” That is, after Meeting new friends, having to leave, they are beset with feelings of loss and sadness. It is unfortunate that they were forced to leave India but kept up their work in Uganda shortly after.
For anyone interested in visiting India and Uganda they detail a list of things they learned about the two countries which I found quite interesting. They also describe a little bit about the Hindu religion. The book is sort of reminiscent of the missionary work of Adoniram Judson and his wife Ann two centuries earlier. Like the Raan’s, they too were forced to leave India. I recommend this work for any westerner planning to visit India or Uganda, but especially India.
