The Cat That God Sent

Jake Wilkerson, a disillusioned young pastor who is an expert at hiding his fears, takes on a new assignment at a small rural church in Coudersport, Pennsylvania. It's a far piece from anywhere and full of curiously odd and eccentric people, including Emma Grainger, a single woman and a veterinarian who dismisses all Christians as "those people," and Tassy, a young runaway with a secret. His first day on the job, however, Jake is adopted by Petey - a cat of unknown origins and breed - but of great perception. Petey believes that he is on a mission from God to redeem Jake and bring him and his quirky friends back to the truth.

Jim Kraus

Jim Kraus is a longtime writer and editor who has authored or co-authored more than 20 books, both fiction and nonfiction. His best-selling humor book, Bloopers, Blunders, Jokes, Quips, and Quotes, was published by Tyndale House Publishers, sold more than 40,000 copies and inspired several spin-off books. Jim, and his wife, novelist Terri Kraus, and one son, live in the Chicago area.
Also residing with them is a sweet and gentle miniature schnauzer named Rufus. Coincidently, Rufus is also the name of the dog in Jim's latest book, The Dog That Talked to God. "What a coincidence," Jim said. "What are the odds of that happening?" They also share space with an ill-tempered Siberian cat named Petey.
Jim recently was awarded a Master of Writing Arts degree from DePaul University. "Now, I am able to write more better," Jim said. (Yes, that is supposed to be humorous.)
Passionate about writing, Jim loves to create true-to-life characters. "I tend to be the one at the party that is on the edge of things--observing how folks act and react. Plus, I'm not that crazy about people in general--so it works out fine." (Again, it's supposed to be funny.)
The idea of the last book came from Jim's twice-daily walks with his dog, Rufus. "I tend to think through problems as we walk, and I sometimes, softly, pose questions to the noble dog Rufus. And if he could, he would answer them. I know he wants to. Sometimes I give his answers a voice. And I imagined that most pet-owners do the same thing. The idea of a talking dog didn't seem so far-fetched. And the story grew from there."

The Irish Cowboy

A touching, heartfelt tale of lost love, regret, and personal redemption.

The government wanted his land. He just wanted to be left alone.

Hap Wilkes is a spiritually fractured Montana rancher facing a painful past, an increasingly uncertain future, who now fights with everything left in a broken and failing body to keep the one thing still left to him - his pride.
The Irish Cowboy is a family drama spanning decades from the time of lost love, to a family found, and finally spiritual redemption and the always-present human yearning for love and forgiveness that marks the most personal novel to date from bestselling author D.W. Ulsterman.
If you enjoyed The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks, you'll LOVE the Irish Cowboy!

READERS CHEER THE IRISH COWBOY!

  • "The Irish Cowboy is a 10 STAR NOVEL - MY HIGHEST PRAISE! The author has outdone himself!"
  • "A great love story but an even greater story about liberty and freedom. If you worry about the power of the federal government, this is a must-read!
  • An interesting mix of romance, family drama and a war for one man's right to own his own land.
  • "A really great family drama of lost love, a test of faith, and a family finding itself. Prepare to cheer and cry at the same time. I absolutely loved the ending..."
  • "My favorite western romance of the year. Had me up all night laughing, crying and praying for Hap and Shirley to find their love..."

˃˃˃ AN AMAZON FAMILY DRAMA BESTSELLER!

"I've read D.W. Ulsterman's action novels so was a little surprised he came out with a western set in Montana. Well let me just say he did a wonderful job. There's action, romance and more action, and whole lot to say about how messed up our country seems to be these days..."
"The best real-life western romance this year..."
"If you are a fan of Christian-themed westerns with an emphasis on the family, you HAVE to read the Irish Cowboy..."
"A nice little romance that left me cheering for Hap and Shirley and their grandkids..."
"A broken down Montana rancher tries to come to terms with a lost love that he finds out isn't quite so lost after all in this excellent family drama by D.W. Ulsterman..."
"I read The Longest Yard by Nicholas Sparks and that was good. Then I read the Irish Cowboy and as far as romance stories go, the Irish Cowboy was better..."
"Normally I wouldn't touch a western romance with a ten foot pole but because this was a D.W. Ulsterman story I gave it a shot and I'm glad I did. Really lays out the plight of America's ranchers as they face big government that seems to only want to shut them all down..."
"A lovely story that keeps the romance clean and doesn't hit the reader over the head with the Christian themes. I'd call it an almost perfect story..."
"Lucky I had a box of tissue when I read this one. What a beautiful story..."
"Having grown up on a Montana ranch in the 1960s this hit all the right notes. I read a lot of historical romance/family drama books and this was one of the best..."
"As an animal lover this western was just about perfect..."
"Sure is nice to be able to share a story with your kids, and the Irish Cowboy is a western that allows you to do just that..."
"This wasn't just another western for me. In so many ways it felt like my own story. I'm not a failed rancher but I know lost love and the Irish Cowboy brought all those emotions back to me in what was a wonderfully told story..."
"The Irish Cowboy has plenty to say politically and does it in a way that fits perfectly in the cowboy genre..."
"Call it cowboy romance or family drama, or Christian romance, I don't care. I'll just call it a really great story..."

My Review
Elaina, Tawny, Grace, and Steph along with a dog and a cat embark on a crazy adventure to open a bed and breakfast across country. From Ohio to Portland and finally to Maine, the fiery, middle aged woman chance meet many obstacles that will put their kindred spirits to the test. Getting strung up in a tree with the dog, encountering illness, meeting men along the way, their escapade will have you laughing and tearing. Jan is a mastermind at creating stories that stir the soul. Her characters are witty, humorous, lovable, very real and totally relatable. As I read ‘Merlot in Maine’ I thought of how fun it would be to hang out with these four women. Never a dull moment. Jan’s writing is so smooth and fluid. I was never confused or bored. Every page had something funny, crazy or touching. She must be a great cook as well because the dishes the gals cook are very tantalizing, you may just want to try them yourself. I know I will. Bravo to yet another 5 star read by the talented Jan Romes
